What do I hear for this Wife, Mother and CEO?
Winning Bidder: Portrait Of A South Florida Businesswoman
Early in the morning as the sun rises over her Hollywood Beach home, Judy Abercrombie begins her day by performing the familial duties reflective of her positions as a wife and a mother. "My third job, running the auction business is unquestionably a priority, but my family is job number one", says Abercrombie, CEO of Abercrombie Auctions International. Judy Abercrombie prides herself on offering a wide range of distinctive and unique works of art for discriminating collectors. She says that, "I always want to bring something for everyone, I find that by bringing an educated appreciation of design to the table and joining it together with the informed opinion and exquisite taste of expert curators who are involved in assembling the collections of objets d' art featured at our events, a unique tapestry of items results. When taken as a whole, an Abercrombie Auctions International event contributes a rare focus to the Art community. The entirety of our efforts is directed towards producing unique events where discriminating individuals find that the experience of buying is itself a performance to remember."
One of the few woman CEO's in American Business and part of a small but growing number of female auctioneers, the energetic and omnipresent Judy Abercrombie's decision to enter to the growing auction industry, was informed by her sense of style and appreciation of Art and Antiquities.
Of the estimated 22,000 licensed auctioneers nationwide, 15 percent are women, up from 7 percent in 2003 according to the National Auctioneers Association. The NAA report also offers that the live-auction industry is a growing one -- sales nationwide climbed 5.3% in 2007 to 270.7 billion. Art, Antiques and Collectibles alone comprise 13.7 billion of that total. That last figure represents an astounding 20.1% growth for the Art category between 2003 and 2007. Abercrombie Auctions International is one of some 10.4 million businesses nationwide, in which women have an ownership stake of 50% or more, representing about 41% of all privately held companies in the U.S., according to Juanita Weaver of the Center for Women's Business Research.
"We live in a transient society where people are constantly moving for reasons of business or lifestyle. Material possessions are as transient as the locations of our lives in this highly mobile and disposable environment", opines Judy Abercrombie. She concludes that, "Thanks to the internet and ebay in particular people are now extremely aware of auctions as a viable method for the buying and selling of tangible items. Auctions are the new marketplace, fitting right in with our fast lives and high velocity consumer oriented culture. These days, people from all income levels are attracted to auctions. We make it so easy by simulcasting the live auction online, so you don't even have to show up in person."
"We are always hunting for the best in designer luxury items that we think will appeal to our customers. Abercrombie Auctions International locates and acquires Fine Art, the old masters as well as the rising stars of the contemporary scene, paintings, sculptures and other luxurious Objets d'Art. We buy estates, paying particular attention to the jewelry and collectibles. At any one event we are offering at most only about 5% of the items in our possession. So we encourage our customers to ask for particular pieces or simply to let us know what they are interested in." Opulence and Diversity, is the fitting theme of the event that Judy Abercrombie is directing her considerable passion towards. The "Grand Auction" which being held at the Ritz Carleton, Miami Beach during this December's Art Basel is a milestone for Abercrombie Auctions International. "Women should understand the game and play to win," according to Abercrombie who goes on to say."Success is a lifestyle choice - if you are successful in your attitude and appearance, you are successful in your life. During the pre-event stages I was excited about this fascinating "Grand Auction" concept. Once the Artists and Collectors started contacting us and contributing I felt honored to be a part of it. Our staff continues to work extremely hard to make this auction happen in a Grand fashion. Perseverance is the key. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work alongside our employees, associates and of course all the fine artists and collectors who along with the rest of us participate in creating the vision that is the "Grand Auction" To preview the event visit Judy Abercrombie at www.AbercrombieAuctionsInternational.com
